Only one in four Americans are satisfied with the direction of the United States, according to a Gallup poll released Friday.
Americans’ satisfaction with the country’s direction has remained flat over the past year, with the major exception of a drop to a low of 16% in October 2013 during the U.S. federal government shutdown. Otherwise, satisfaction has not strayed from the 20% range since April of last year when it reached 30%. This month’s 25% is essentially the same as the 24% from April and the 25% reading in March. The latest findings are from a May 8-11 Gallup poll.
Republicans are the least pleased of all political parities with America’s condition. Thirty-five percent of Democrats and 24 percent of Independents are satisfied with the direction of the country, compared to only 15 percent of Republicans.
More interesting though, is the fact that GOP satisfaction is actually at its highest since Barack Obama was inaugurated in January 2009.
The party’s shifting optimism for America’s future might correlate with the election season. A poll earlier this week, revealed Republicans show the most voter enthusiasm. Perhaps, they are ready for change and see it as a possible reality in the near future.

PORTERVILLE, Calif. – A Central California mayor’s remarks that bullying victims should toughen up and defend themselves has sparked anger among some city officials and gay rights advocates.
At a recent City Council meeting, Porterville Mayor Cameron Hamilton said he opposes bullying but thinks it is too often blamed for the world’s problems. Hamilton said some people need to “grow a pair.”
The mayor was responding to a student program proposing safe zones around town with signs directing children to places where they could seek refuge from bullies. Porterville is a community of 55,000 residents 70 miles southeast of Fresno.
Councilwoman Virginia Gurrola backs the safe zones and told the mayor, “It’s hard to just ‘grow a pair’ when you’re a 10-year-old girl.”
Melissa McMurrey of Gay Porterville told KFSN-TV that she felt attacked by the mayor’s comments. She said bullies often target young gay people.
Hamilton cast the lone vote against further discussing the safety zones. He told The Associated Press on Friday that he’s not anti-gay, but he opposed the plan because it would be costly and expose the city to lawsuits if a safe zone turned dangerous.
“The message is, together we can all fight this thing,” Hamilton said of bullying.
The proposal has been pulled from discussion at next weeks’ council meeting.

A perfect example of this is a video produced by Mark Dice, showing Obama supporters agreeing that if Republican John Boehner doesn’t like Mexican food, he must be racist and should be removed from office.
Of course, we have no idea whether Boehner really likes or doesn’t like Mexican food. That’s not the point. Dice creates the false story in order to gauge gullibility of people when confronted with a false racism assumption. It’s both hilarious and disappointing.

Immigration officials knowingly released dozens of murderers and thousands of drunken drivers back into the U.S. in 2013, according to Obama administration statistics that could undercut the president’s argument that he is trying to focus on the most serious criminals in his immigration enforcement.
Among the 36,000 immigrants whom U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released from custody last year there were 116 with convictions for homicide, 43 for negligent manslaughter, 14 for voluntary manslaughter and one with a conviction classified by ICE as “homicide-willful kill-public official-gun.”
The immigrants were in deportation proceedings, meaning ICE was trying to remove them from the country and could have held them in detention but released them anyway, according to the Center for Immigration Studies, which published the numbers Monday. The Washington Times also obtained the data.
“This would be considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the president and perpetrated by our own immigration officials,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican. “The administration’s actions are outrageous. They willfully and knowingly put the interests of criminal immigrants before the safety and security of the American people.”
